BRIDGET JOYCE SQUARE – COMMUNITY RAINPARK
With community needs and healthy routes to school at the heart of the design, Bridget Joyce Square also provides climate resilience losing over 50% of the rain that lands on it, cleaning and slowing the rest and using it to naturally irrigate the lush planting.
People and play are at the heart of this project with spaces to host community events, seating for parents to gather outside school and a playful ‘wiggly wall’ creating an adventurous route to school through jungle-like grasses and tree grove.
This project won both the ‘Added Value Through Landscape Award’ and the coveted ‘President’s Award’ at the Landscape Institute 2017 awards, as well as an Institute of Civil Engineers London award and a local hammersmith Society award, recognising the positive impact the scheme has had on the local community as well as its valuable flood mitigation and climate resilience performance.
