ROBERT WELCH OFFICE & WAREHOUSE

Despite being a distribution warehouse on an industrial estate, the client, renowned cutlery and home accessory makers Robert Welch Ltd, believe, like we do, that everybody deserves to work in a nice environment. The landscape responds to this brief with a balance of ornamental and biodiverse external spaces creating a beautiful and dramatic entrance, spaces to enjoy nature during breaks and a wider setting of biodiverse meadows.

The whole landscape manages rainwater in creative and cost-effective ways too, responding to the challenge of perched groundwater and relatively high receiving watercourses by keeping attenuation feaures shallow and the flow of water on the surface of the landscape wherever possible. A raised wetland rill spanning the buildings entrance collonade receives roof runoff before overflowing through special flow control spouts into the colourful raingardens that surround the main entrance. The permeable carpark cleans runoff and dicharges it slowly, via a biodiverse wetland to the adjacent stream.
