STRUTTS CENTRE, BELPER
Two demonstration raingardens were designed into the historical setting of the Strutts Centre community building as part of this Trent Rivers Trust led project funded by the Environment Agency and Severn Trent.
One raingarden by the caretakers house in the space of an existing planting bed is planted with ornamental herbaceous planting and collects rainwater from adjacent surfaces and the building roof via channels.
This is connected, via an ornamentally planted swale and channel drain across the access road, to a larger meadow-seeded raingarden near the site entrance. The channel drain also picks up road runoff and conveys it to the meadow raingarden, whilst further channels and a swale direct roof runoff from the main building to this same raingarden.
