SUDS DESIGN & EVALUATION GUIDE
This illustrated and highly-accessible document fills the gap in much needed design and planning evaluation advice for Sustainable Drainage projects and is being used by more than 20 planning authorities throughout the UK, including 12 London boroughs.
The guide, co-authored with Anthony McCloy, is consistent between the different authorities with each having a discreet section that highlights the geological and landscape context of that authority area along with any requirements specific to each authority. This consistence helps to alleviate the postcode lottery that pervades much of the UK in terms of what is expected by Planning for SuDS in new developments.
Authorities that are using the guide are noticing improvements in the quality of SuDS in planning submissions and Merton Council has adopted the guide as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).
The guide’s dedicated website can be found at www.SuDSguide.uk and the guide is available for councils to purchase.
